Hickman Hour of Code
We live in a world surrounded by technology. We know that whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly hinge on understanding how technology works. But only a tiny fraction of us are learning computer science, and fewer students are studying it than a decade ago.
That's why Hickman Charter School is participating in the Hour of Code during Computer Science Education Week (Dec. 6-12, 2021). Last year, 15 million students tried computer science in one week. See http://code.org/learn for details on how to begin. Khan Academy also has great activities.
The "Code" website is very kid friendly and set up like games. Expect students to struggle with some of the levels. That's OK...great actually! Remember, if we only do things we already know how to do, our brains are not growing. Many times, the game will give clues. Reading the clues and instructions aloud can be helpful for students. Here are some great questions to ask that help encourage perseverance.
